So as I understand Strongholds where introduced in Minecraft Beta Pre-release 1.8 and until Minecraft 1.0 (Well Beta 1.9 Snapshop 4 which is considered a version of 1.0 rather than a true Beta) there were no Eyes of Ender. Alpha/Beta are fine, a bit lacking and I do miss the way the game feels and the quality of life features.
